They don’t stand out. But they’re together.
They stand secluded from the rest of us, in their own little bubble of perfection.
They aren’t a couple, you can say with perfect certainty. They wouldn’t last that long. And yes, they’ve lasted very long. They’re going to end up together, though. Somewhere along the line, they’re going to kiss and have a fairytale romance.
I board the bus with my head down.
He bumps me on the way to his seat.
I look up at him

He really shouldn’t have been surprised—she did it all the time.
“V-Victoria! What are you doing here?!” he exclaimed.
Victoria stuck up her nose. “Can I not visit my friend?”
“It’s midnight, Vicky.”
“Don’t call me that,” she snapped, her English accent more prominent than ever.
He sat down on his bed. “Seriously, Victoria, school’s tomorrow. Go back to your dorm. We’ll talk tomorrow, won’t we?”
He meant it as a rhetorical quest

She’s older than most, in her eighties, maybe?
She sees things, when she sits back and watches everyone picking up their loved ones.
The woman sees the boy with the flowers. By the way he’s acting, he’s proposing.
The woman sees the mother and daughter. The daughter has a balloon with the words ‘Welcome Home!’ on it.
The hour ticks down.
The woman who sees everything sees the girl who sees nothing.
They’re an ironic pair.
